2SHB 1982 — Vacating convictions involving the exercise of treaty rights by Indian tribal members.

What this bill does

Expands the circumstances where a person may apply to vacate certain convictions based on the person's exercise of treaty Indian rights, including by authorizing vacations based on the exercise of treaty Indian hunting, gathering, or pasturing rights, eliminating limitations based on the date of the underlying conviction, and including convictions based on violations of enjoined local ordinances. Requires the Office of Public Defense to provide direct representation and consultation services to persons eligible to vacate convictions based on the exercise of treaty Indian rights, including by establishing a position for a staff tribal liaison counsel to offer such services.
