SSB 6184 — Updating the office of homeless youth program provisions.

What this bill does

Modifies provisions related to parental notification in crisis residential centers in alignment with generally applicable provisions governing licensed overnight youth shelters. Allows young adults under age 21 who are residing in a transitional living program for unaccompanied homeless youth at the time they reach age 18 to be considered children for the purpose of continued placement in group care facilities. Allows emancipated minors to be considered young adults for purposes of access to Office of Homeless Youth Prevention and Protection Programs (OHY) programs. Authorizes OHY grant funds used to provide flexible financial assistance to be provided directly to eligible youth and young adults or a third party vendor. Renames the Housing Stability for Youth in Crisis Program the "Housing Stability for Youth in Courts Program," and removes its expiration date and requirement for a minimum of six total participating counties. Expands eligibility for community support team assistance to youth seeking shelter services, and modifies the circumstances for family engagement by community support teams. Makes changes to the authorized use and administration of funds through the Independent Youth Housing Program. Makes miscellaneous other changes to the provisions governing programs funded by the OHY to update references and harmonize definitions.
