SSB 5873 — Providing adequate and predictable student transportation.

What this bill does

Requires the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) to provide an analysis of school district transportation costs and allocations to the Legislature by June 1, 2027. Requires the OSPI to develop a transparent, predictable, and comprehensive student transportation funding model that addresses the diverse needs of students and the unique characteristics of school districts. Provides additional funding in the amount of $400 per student for students that require special transportation due to the requirements of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. Requires that school district contracts for pupil transportation services must require the contracting employer to provide health benefits and pension contributions equivalent to those of school district classified employees.
